If we go towards Lajares from Corralejo, looking to the right we can see a beautiful series of aligned volcanoes, among them the Calderon Hondo. Climbing to the top is a unique experience, suitable for everyone ..
These volcanoes emerged about 50,000 years ago, they increased the surface area of Fuerteventura and created the island of Lobos.
The Calderon Hondo is one of the best preserved. To get to this volcano follow the road to Lajares from Corralejo, just before arriving in Lajares there is a roundabout near the Campo Municipal de Futbol (a small football stadium), take the first exit on the right direction "Majanicho".
After less than a kilometer there is a little space on the right, at the foot of volcanoes, where to park your vehicle and begin the journey towards the volcano.
The access to the volcano is very simple, the path is suitable for everyone, a small dirt path to follow, surrounded by stones lined up along almost the entire path. It takes about 45 minutes walking to get to the top, once there, you'll find a small "Mirador" to contemplate the crater of this impressive volcano and its surrounding landscape.
The highest point of the crater reaches 278 meters. From this point you can also enjoy an impressive view of the other volcanoes that make this natural area so amazing.
Very carefully, it recommended only for experts, it is possible to walk around the mouth of the volcano, to delight your eyes with a spectacular landscape of the whole north of Fuerteventura (El Cotillo, Majanicho, island of Lanzarote) and the town of Lajares, as well as the whole "Malpais "which was formed following the eruptions of all these volcanoes.
There are also a multitude of small birds of prey and large black crows, plus herds of goats grazing along the edges of the crater.
A highly recommended excursion with minimum difficulty. Not to miss.
