Gilbert Bara - Photos
My name is Gilbert Bara. I was born on 12 January 1949 in Paris and have lived in Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands since 1986. Photography has always been my passion since getting my first camera, a Nikkormat at 18 years old...
When I was about 22 years old, I had my first motorsport photos published from races, such as “The Le Mans 24 hour race” and “The Winter Snow Race” in Courshevel, now known as the “Andros Trophy”. Also, the last Formula 1 Grand Prix in the “Charade” circuit in Clermont Ferrand, and in motorcross racing, speed and endurance in Montlhery in Castelet and in Daytona, with appearance in specialist magazines. After a few years away from professional photography, I have returned to my initial passion “the photo”.
After the year 2000 together with the best windsurfers in the world and the support of Jose Falcon, the Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda importer in Fuerteventura, I created a team of windsurfers for promotional purposes and together we made the 2002 calendar which depicted the lifestyle of the athletes of the island in the context of the car brands through the medium of artistic /creative photography which became a huge success on the island.
Over the following years my photographs have been published in various sporting magazines such as, “Wind Magazine”, “Planche Magazine”, “Surf A Vela” and “New Look”. I have created my website gilbertbara.com in order to share my photos of sport, landscapes, marine landscapes, general local life and my travels. Nowadays, Fuerteventura and Cuba are favourite locations for photography.
For sports photography I have always used Canon. My current equipment consists of various cameras, namely, EOS 1DS, EOS 5dMkII, EOS 1D MkII, EOS 1DX and lenses from 8mm – 600mm.For landscape photography I prefer the Pentax 645 D with lenses of 25mm, 50mm and 150mm.
I hope you take pleasure from browsing through photographs.
