Things to see: Cofete Fuerteventura

Cofete: the magical beach of Fuerteventura
If you come on holiday to Fuerteventura it is worth taking a day to visit Cofete, the most famous virgin and charming beach of all the Canary Islands…
The visit is recommended if you want to discover a unique and magical place, it is a stop not to be missed even if, to reach it, the road is dirt and winding.
Cofete is a mysterious place that strikes for its long deserted beach, surrounded by wild nature and surrounded by mountains.

To get there, we must take the detour that starts from the town of Morro Jable with the sign COFETE – EL PUERTITO.
It is recommended to do this visit with an off-road vehicle, but with great care it is possible to do it with a normal car. If you have rented it, check that in the contract it is allowed to go on dirt roads because almost always in these places the car is not covered by insurance.
Following this dirt road route for about 8 kilometers, we find a sign on the right indicating Cofete. From this point, the road climbs towards the mountains because to reach the beach we have to climb over them.
The first stop is about 2 kilometers away, you arrive at the Mirador Degollada Agua Oveja, about 230m above sea level, from where you can admire an impressive panorama of Cofete beach. Here we are welcomed by sociable goats who run fearlessly around people because they are now used to tourists.
Following the road you descend towards the small village of Cofete, being very careful, as the road is narrow and runs along a cliff. Around us we can admire the unspoiled nature and observe El Cardón, a typical plant of Fuerteventura that is a protected type of cactus.
Once we reach Cofete, we can go and see the Winter Villa, always paying attention to the road. A two-storey villa with a tower built in 1946 by Ing. Winter.
Otherwise you can go down to the beach. A promenade of more than 12 kilometers in length where you can take a walk along the shore enjoying the unique atmosphere that Cofete offers, thanks also to the Jandía mountain massif, with the highest mountains in Fuerteventura, which follow the entire beach.
From this point, you can walk on the beach to the north and visit El Islote about 5 kilometers away, walking about an hour on foot (photo below)
