Complete Guide to Corralejo Fuerteventura's Flag Beach

Flag Beach is among the most iconic beaches on the island, standing out for its unspoiled beauty and ideal conditions for water sports.
In this article, we’ll explore everything you need to know about Flag Beach, including tourist information, and details on wind, wave, and tide conditions during different seasons of the year.

Flag Beach is located on the northeast coast of Fuerteventura, just a few kilometres from the lively town of Corralejo.
This beach stretches for about 7 kilometers along the coast, offering large spaces of golden sand and crystal clear waters.
The surrounding environment is dominated by the sand dunes of the Corralejo Natural Park, which creates a breathtaking contrast with the intense blue of the Atlantic Ocean.

The beach is well known for its natural beauty, but what makes it truly special are the weather conditions that make it a paradise for windsurfers, kitesurfers, and surfers.
Despite its popularity, Flag Beach manages to maintain a relaxed atmosphere, with plenty of space to stretch out and enjoy the sun even during peak season.

How to get to Flag Beach

Flag Beach is easily accessible from the town of Corralejo, which is about 10 minutes away by car.
If you don’t have a car available, you can also reach the beach by public transport or by bicycle.
Buses depart regularly from Corralejo that stop near the beach, or you can choose to rent a bike and enjoy a leisurely ride along the coast.
For those coming from other parts of the island, Fuerteventura Airport is about 40 minutes away by car.

Flag Services

At Flag Beach, you’ll find a variety of amenities that make your visit convenient and enjoyable.
There are several surf schools and equipment rental centers where you can take lessons or rent everything you need for windsurfing, kitesurfing, and surfing.
Many of these centers also offer beginner packages, so if you’ve never tried one of these sports, Flag Beach is a great place to start.

The beach also has a kiosk Bar H (currently managed by Giorgia and Adriano) which offers refreshing drinks and snacks, but it is always recommended to bring water and food with you, especially if you plan to spend the whole day at the beach.
In two small areas, currently, there are umbrellas and sunbeds for rent, which helps to maintain the wild and natural appearance of the beach but also comfortable for tourists.

Flag Beach: Wind Waves Tides

Real-time

Wind Waves Tides by Season

Weather and sea conditions at Flag Beach vary significantly during the different seasons of the year.
This section offers a detailed overview of what to expect in terms of wind, waves, and tides, so you can plan your visit according to your preferences.

Spring (March – May)

Wind: Spring marks the beginning of the wind season in Fuerteventura, with constant winds blowing from the northeast.
During this time, the wind speed varies between 15 and 25 knots, making it one of the best seasons for kitesurfing and windsurfing.
The conditions are ideal for those who already have some experience in these sports, as the winds are strong but not extreme.

Waves: Waves in spring are usually moderate, with an average height of 1-2 meters.
This makes the season ideal for intermediate surfers, who can enjoy good sessions without having to deal with overly challenging waves.

Tides: Tides in spring are fairly regular, with an average of two high and low tide cycles per day.
The difference in level between high and low tide is not too much, so there is always a good amount of beach available throughout the day.

Summer (June – August)

Wind: Summer is the windiest season at Flag Beach, with winds that can reach 30 knots or more.
This is the favorite time for kitesurfing and windsurfing experts, who can take advantage of the optimal conditions to perform advanced maneuvers and have fun to the fullest.
However, for beginners, the conditions may be a bit too challenging.

Waves: During the summer, the waves are usually smaller, with an average height of 0.5-1.5 meters.
This makes summer a perfect time for those new to surfing, as the waves are easy to manage and the conditions are generally stable.

Tides: Summer tides are similar to spring tides, with two daily tidal cycles.
However, during full or new moon days, the difference between high and low tide can be more pronounced, temporarily reducing the available beach.

Autumn (September – November)

Wind: In autumn, the winds begin to decrease in intensity compared to summer, but still remain fairly constant, with an average speed between 10 and 20 knots.
This makes autumn an ideal season for both beginners and intermediates, as the conditions are less extreme but still ideal for water sports.

Waves: Waves in autumn tend to grow compared to summer, with an average height ranging between 1 and 2.5 meters.
This period is perfect for surfers looking for more challenges, but it is still accessible to those with less experience.

Tides: Autumn tides are fairly predictable, with two cycles of high and low tide per day.
The difference in level between high and low tide may be a little more pronounced than in summer, but not significantly.

Winter (December – February)

Wind: Winter at Flag Beach sees a reduction in wind intensity, with average speeds of around 10-15 knots.
This makes the season less conducive for kitesurfing and windsurfing, but still practicable, especially for beginners.

Waves: Winter is the wave season in Fuerteventura, with waves that can reach 3 meters or more on rough sea days.
This period is best for experienced surfers, who are looking for powerful waves and demanding challenges.
However, beginners should be cautious and prefer days with calmer conditions.

Tides: Winter tides can vary considerably, with very pronounced high and low tide cycles during full or new moon phases of the moon.
This can reduce the beach available during high tide, but it also provides excellent opportunities to explore the natural pools that form between the rocks during low tide.
