Punta Helena

Punta Helena, small and charming

Punta Helena is a small but charming beach located north of Corralejo, one of the main tourist resorts, with some of the most beautiful beaches in Fuerteventura.
Unlike the long stretches of white sand that characterize other beaches on the island, Punta Helena is a quiet cove, characterized by a mix of golden sand and black volcanic rocks that create a unique and evocative landscape.
From here you can appreciate the nearby island of Lobos.
This beach is particularly popular with those looking for a more intimate and less crowded place than the main beaches of Corralejo.

The sea here is generally calm, with clear, turquoise waters, perfect for snorkeling and discovering the area’s rich marine life.
Although it is less known than other beaches, Punta Helena offers a relaxing and authentic experience, away from the hustle and bustle of the more touristy areas.
Along the beach, which can be reached from Avenida Grades Playas, you will also find two cocktail bars and a small restaurant facing the sea.

How to Get There

Punta Helena is easily accessible from Corralejo, which is only a few minutes by car or on foot from the city center.
If you are staying in Corralejo, you can easily walk to the beach by following the promenade that runs along the ocean.
For those arriving from other parts of the island, Fuerteventura Airport is about a 40-minute drive from Punta Helena.

Parking near the beach is quite simple although it depends on the period as you are in a residential area, especially during the high season.

Services

As a relatively small and lesser-known beach, Punta Helena does not offer many tourist services directly on the beach.
There are no kiosks, restaurants, or sunbed and umbrella rentals, which helps maintain its natural and tranquil charm.
However, the center of Corralejo, with its many bars, restaurants, and shops, is within easy reach and offers everything you might need for your day at the beach.

The beach is perfect for those looking for a place to relax, take long walks, or simply enjoy the beauty of nature.
The calm and transparent waters also make it ideal for snorkeling, where you can observe small fish and other sea creatures that inhabit the area.

Spring (March – May)

Wind: Spring at Punta Helena is characterized by moderate winds, with an average speed ranging between 10 and 20 knots.
The winds come mainly from the northeast, creating favorable conditions for sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing nearby, but in Punta Helena, the more sheltered bay ensures a pleasant breeze that makes for the perfect environment to relax.

During low tide, you can discover several natural pools between the rocks, which offer a unique opportunity to explore the marine life just a short distance from the shore.

Summer (June – August)

Wind: Summer brings with it more intense winds, which can reach 25-30 knots on the windiest days.
However, the location of Punta Helena, partially protected by the rocks and the conformation of the coast, makes the beach less exposed to strong winds, creating ideal conditions for those looking for a day of sun and sea in peace.

Waves: During the summer, the waves are usually small, with an average height of 0.5-1.5 meters.
The calm conditions make summer the ideal season for families and for those who want to take long swims or explore the seabed with a mask and snorkel.

Tides: Summer tides tend to be more pronounced, with significant differences between high and low tides, especially during full or new moon phases.
During low tide, the beach expands, revealing large areas of sand and rocks, perfect for walking and exploring.

Autumn (September – November)

This time is especially pleasant to visit Punta Helena, as the weather is mild and the light winds create perfect conditions for a relaxing day at the beach.

Waves: In autumn, waves can increase slightly in size compared to summer, reaching 1-2 meters in height.
This makes the season ideal for beginner surfers or those who want to try their hand at small waves in a safe environment.

Tides: Autumn tides are usually regular, with two cycles of high and low tide per day.
The difference in level between high and low tide is moderate, always offering a good amount of beach and opportunities to explore the natural pools that form during low tide.

Winter (December – February)

Wind: During the winter, the winds at Punta Helena are lighter, with an average speed between 5 and 15 knots.
This makes winter a perfect season for those seeking tranquility and want to avoid the most extreme conditions that can characterize other beaches in Fuerteventura.

Waves: Winter is the season when the waves can get bigger, with an average height ranging between 1.5 and 3 meters.
This makes Punta Helena a great surfing spot, especially for those who are looking for more powerful waves.
However, on days of rougher seas, it is advisable to pay attention to the sea conditions before entering the water.

Tides: Winter tides can be quite pronounced, with significant differences between high and low tide, especially during full or new moon phases.
